OpenAI Integration with Epic

Below are several readings on the recently announced OpenAI integration with Epic.

(1) OpenAI blog, Sept 1, 2026: “Healthcare organizations can now connect EHR and additional industry data to ChatGPT. A new Epic integration and Healthcare Public Data plugin help teams review authorized patient context and work with structured information from official sources in ChatGPT for Healthcare.” See link here

(2) Karan Singhal, from the OpenAI Health team, posted about it on LinkedIn: “First, we’re introducing a new EHR integration allows healthcare organizations to connect supported Epic environments to ChatGPT, giving authorized clinicians access to relevant patient context at the point of decision-making… Second, we’re introducing the Healthcare Public Data plugin that connects ChatGPT to nine additional healthcare industry datasets” – see link here

(3) “ChatGPT Health adds Epic integration for clinicians to import patient data” – Ivan Mehta writes on TechCrunchsee link here

(4) “Say goodbye to a thousand HealthTech AI startups. OpenAI just integrated ChatGPT directly into Epic, the EHR system holding records for 325M+ patients. For years, an entire category of startups has been pitching some version of “AI that plugs into your EHR to save clinicians time.” Different names, different UIs, same core value prop. That value prop just got absorbed by the two biggest names in their respective industries, in one announcement.” (Aaron Blotnick writes on LinkedIn – see link here)
