What does the word Tesserae mean?

The word “tesserae” refers to the pieces of a mosaic. I decided to use this term to express the concepts I think about, especially as they relate to the system I have been developing in Kisop.

In 2014, I owned a contemporary art space. In an art exhibition of work by the artist Kelton Osborn, he chose the title “fragments revealed: a continuous process“. I have always thought this was a great expression, not only of the creative process, but of how we invent things.

I have worked in the innovation space throughout my life and tend to perceive changes before all the words to describe the “new” things are commonplace or really understood. When I look back at the thesis I wrote on The Internet as a Public Space in 1996 – 1999, I can see this word-less kind of understanding of the spatial and relational wandering we would one day be engaged in that I didn’t yet know how to express.

In this blog, I am trying to share the pieces as I perceive them. These are my “tesserae”. While I share “readings”, and those are the words of others, I am reserving “tesserae” for the pieces I have created.
